Fairfax County General District Court
Volunteers are needed in the Pretrial Services Division to interview defendants
(in the jail) after arrest, making bond recommendations to judges. Volunteers
also work with defendants to determine their employment/financial status
and to see if they qualify for court appointed counsel. Volunteers are needed
at the Judicial Center in Fairfax Monday through Friday.

Fairfax County Juvenile & Domestic Relations
District Court
Volunteers assist in decentralized probation units and residential facilities.
There are specialized programs and each facility offers an educational component.
General orientation is provided for the court and on site training is provided
by assigned supervisor.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)
Mobilizes victims and their allies to establish public conviction that drunk
driving is unacceptable and criminal through promoting corresponding public
policies, programs and personal accountability. Volunteers assist with victims,
monitoring courts and judges, public speaking to raise awareness with legislators,
writing letters and making phone calls to legislators, staffing displays
and helping with the quarterly newsletters.

Offender Aid & Restoration (OAR)
Provides rehabilitation of inmates and ex-offenders from Fairfax, Alexandria
and Arlington jails. Volunteers assist with informal counseling support to
inmates to aid their transition back into the community. Training is provided
twice yearly and volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of four hours per
month for a year with an offender.

Arlington Victims of Violence Program Intervention
Provides crisis intervention, counseling, and advocacy services to victims
of sexual assault and incest and domestic violence. In dealing with primarily
adult women, volunteers need to be compassionate and committed, willing to
learn and have the ability to remain calm during a crisis. Training is provided.

Fairfax County Victim Assistance Network
Provides a countywide network of prevention education and direct victim services
related to sexual assault and domestic violence. Volunteers undergo intensive
training and meetings twice monthly to continue their own education about
victims of this violence. For more information contact the volunteer coordinator.

Prison Fellowship Ministries
Works with the church in providing ministry to prisoners, ex-prisoners and
their families. Volunteers assist ministry-training coordinators with various
activities and are also needed to help with office duties. Computer skills

Fairfax County Alcohol Safety Action Program
Works to reduce alcohol and drug problems among residents of Fairfax-Falls
Church community and employees of these municipalities. Volunteers assist
with different programs.

Fairfax Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)
Become the voice for an abused and neglected child in Court.
Fairfax CASA selects and trains community-minded citizens from diverse
backgrounds to volunteer as advocates for children whose families have
been cited for abuse and neglect by the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic
Relations Court. The role of a CASA is to investigate a child’s
situation and to advocate for what is in the best interest of the child
in Court. All CASA Volunteers undergo background checks and extensive
training to prepare them for this role. No prior experience in child
welfare is required. Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age.

Northern Virginia Mediation Service (NVMS)
Provides mediation and other conflict resolution services to the community,
training and consultation in mediation, and public education so that citizens,
courts, churches, schools, employers and others may take full advantage of
conflict resolution.
