parent aids to assist parents of preschoolers who have children with behavioral
disorders, and leading counseling groups for anger management in men, women victims
of domestic violence, and adults achieving independence.

Loudon Association for Retarded Citizens, Inc.
Be a “special friend” to mentally retarded person. Add happiness
to the lives of others by helping to increase their social activity and decrease
their feelings of loneliness or isolation. An opportunity to take outings,
practice hobbies or do whatever it is friends do together.

Northern Virginia Training Center
Center for the mentally retarded develops all of the skills necessary to enable
residents of the center to return to their families and communities. Whenever
possible the center works with the community in accomplishing this goal.
A variety of opportunities exist for both individual and group volunteers.

WellSpring Ministries
Provides residential, education and counseling services to adults with mental
retardation. It is a Christian community dedicated to ministering the love
of Jesus to the disabled. Volunteers assist as tutors, and as independent
living skills trainers and recreation leaders.

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Services (PRS) - Compeer Calling
Program
Good listeners with compassion and patience are need to make 5-6 phone calls
per month to men and women who are isolated by mental illness. These people
are waiting to be matched with a volunteer in a one-to-one friendship. The
calls can be made from your home. Instruction and ongoing support are provided.
