Needs a Volunteer Office Assistant to provide clerical support for their HIV
services unit. They also need a Public Health Nurse Volunteer to assist with

The Whitman Walker Clinic of Northern Virginia
Needs Buddies to provide companionship to help meet the emotional and physical
needs of a person living with AIDS. Training is provided. Administrative
Volunteers are also needed to assist the NOVAA Project office manager by
answering phones, filing, typing, and updating resource lists. Street Outreach
Volunteers are needed to distribute AIDS brochures, condoms, and bleach.
They provide information and answer questions about HIV/AIDS. Training is
provided.

The Whitman Walker Clinic
Needs volunteers for a variety of services. Volunteers are needed to provide
Education Services such as HIV information, counseling, and referrals to
callers over the phone. Others provide training programs to community organizations,
businesses and local churches. Others provide safe sex outreach programs
to African-American and Latino communities. Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services
volunteers provide treatment and aftercare programs. Volunteers are needed
in fundraising and community outreach and the education components of the
program. Volunteers are also needed in providing Mental Health Services.
Volunteers in this area help with hotlines, support groups and referrals
to professional therapists and counselors.

Pets-DC
Needs people willing to assist pet-owners with AIDS or HIV to keep their pets
healthy and with them as long a possible. Volunteers provide services such
as dog walking, litter-box cleaning, fish tank cleaning, animal feeding,
short-term in-home care, obtaining pet food, etc. Some training required.

American Red Cross of Alexandria
Needs an Administrative Volunteer to assist HIV/AIDS coordinator in a variety
of clerical and administrative tasks including answering the phone, filing,
and general office support. Computer literate persons preferred. HIV/AIDS Prevention
and Education Instructors are also needed to conduct community HIV/AIDS education
and prevention classes in the Alexandria area. Training and support provided.
And Special Projects Volunteers are needed to be available for special projects
and fundraisers, public relations, stuffing envelopes, etc. For more information

Food and Friends of Washington D.C.
Provides nutritious meals to homebound people with AIDS. Kitchen Volunteers
are needed to prepare menus and meals, pack meals for delivery and keep the
kitchen clean. Delivery Volunteers are needed to pick up meals from the Food
and Friends kitchen and deliver them to homebound people with AIDS. For Information

Hopkins House of Alexandria
Provides Community HIV/AIDS Prevention Services. Some volunteer positions offered
are for Community Outreach Specialists to assist staff in providing street
and community outreach in Black and Latino low-income neighborhoods for HIV
education and prevention. Latino Community Educators are needed to educate
Latino communities about AIDS and HIV. Proficiency in Spanish is required.
Administrative Volunteers are needed to assist staff in a variety of creative
and clerical tasks. Training available. For more information call the program

The Hospice of Northern Virginia
Needs Patient Volunteers to provide support for terminally ill patients and
their families, provide emotional support, assisting staff and running errands.
Bereavement Volunteers are needed to provide emotional support to friends

NOVAM--Northern Virginia AIDS Ministries of Alexandria
Needs Transportation Volunteers to run a variety of errands. NOVAM also needs
Care Team Volunteers to visit with and provide support for clients in their
homes. Duties may include shopping, house cleaning, meal preparation, supportive

Damien Ministries
Damien Ministries operates Damien House, a residence for homeless men and women
with AIDS who are released from the prison system. The ministry also coordinates
a food bank for people with HIV/AIDS, and pastoral care and spiritual counseling.
Volunteers can help with the food bank and provide home maintenance and repair.
