Lead ~ Serve ~ Learn

Mason's Resource For:
Heather Hare
In her role at the Center for Leadership & Community Engagement, Heather Hare serves as a liaison between faculty, students and local nonprofit organizations to develop academic service-learning, the integration of community service into courses. She also teaches university transition and leadership courses which incorporate service-learning.
Heather is enthusiastic about volunteering as a way of making a difference in the community and fostering personal growth. To provide students with opportunities to engage in volunteer work, she organizes co-curricular volunteer programs including Alternative Spring Break and Mason Second Saturdays. In her work with students, Heather strives to facilitate students own recognition of their strengths and capacity to make a difference in the community by addressing our critical human and social needs through activism and service.
Before coming to Mason, Heather spent six years working in program development, volunteer coordination and training in local nonprofit organizations. This work included developing academic and recreational programs for homeless children, developing and implementing training in suicide prevention and crisis intervention, and facilitating workshops on government and politics for high school students from across the country. Heather also served three years in the Peace Corps, teaching English at Cadi Ayyad University in Beni Mellal, Morocco.
