Mission: The Earth Sangha is a non-profit public charity based in the Washington, D.C. area and devoted to environmental action as an expression of the Buddhist was of life. We operate an ecological restoration program tos restore native forests and meadors, stabalize streams, and control invasice alien plants.
Opportunities: Students will participate in various local ecological restoration projects involving the propagation and installation of native plants and the removal of invasive species in public parkland. During the spring through fall, they will help tend to the plans at our Wild Plant Nursery in Springfield, VA.  If the students are available for a few hours on weekends, they will help us during planting events.  This involves transporting tools, planting, and guiding other volunteers.  Work at the nursery generally involves watering, weeding, and mulching.  Invasives removal occurs year-round at several sites.  Since the nature of our work depends on the season, more specific details will be provided based on which semester that the students will participate. 
Hours: 9 or 10AM-early afternoon. During weekdays plan on at least a two hour commitment.
Requirements: No age requirement, no previous experience required.

Mission: To empower homeless families with children under age 18 in Northern Virginia to attain stable housing and self-sufficiency by giving them the skills, knowledge, and hope they need to become productive participants in the community.
Opportunities: ESL Teaching Assistants and GED Tutors, and assistance with planning special events throughout the year.
Hours: Wednesday evenings. 7-8 pm for workshop placement. Variable for other types of work.
Requirements: Students must be available from 6:30-8:30pm on Wednesday evenings plus necessary planning time. Training will be provided.
